About Sunlip
Sunlip is an independent record label that aims to encourage experimentation and expression over trend and conformity, pushing new sounds from and adjacent to the electronic underground.
As dance music increases in popularity and exposure to the mainstream, more people are looking to contribute to the scene than ever before. Labels like ec2a, Buntai, and outhouse sounds have made it part of their mission to put newcomers on the map.
This is also Sunlip's goal - but more specifically, we want to encourage up-and-coming artists to experiment with sounds they otherwise might not consider for release.
Bootleg crowd-pleasers and commercial spinoffs of underground genres esp. bassline, speed garage etc. have blown up in popularity over the last few years, in turn benefitting from a lot more label coverage. Artists are incentivised to produce music that ‘fits in’, optimising for attention, audiences and algorithms.
Spaces for up-and-coming electronic producers need to exist that hold the artists at their core, encouraging experimentation and giving them room to create.
Original tracks that showcase their artist's unique sound - that's the music that Sunlip aims to encourage.
The Daybreak Compilations
The Daybreak Compilations are a series of compilation albums, each curated to show off great electronic music from up-and-coming artists, in line with our mission as a label.
The first installation of the series is out now, titled Daybreak I. It features 9 tracks from 7 up-and-coming artists, 3 of which have marked their first label release as part of the compilation.
We have started fielding submissions for the second Daybreak. The first leans slightly melodic, so to counterbalance that this release will lean darker. We'll be aiming to complete the project by the end of winter, while the days are still short and club season is underway. See the section below for details on submitting your music.
Single-artist releases
We've also started work on our first single-artist releases. These will take the form of short EPs, starting off what we want to be a really interesting label discography; short projects channeling the core ideas of Sunlip, giving artists a small pallette to try something new and become part of the label's community.
If you have ideas for a project that would fit this description, feel free to reach out specifically regarding this format.
Submit Your Tracks
Sunlip encourages submissions from everybody.
We are open minded and love music. We also offer in-house mixing and mastering at no cost to our artists, so don't worry about your personal mixing quality.
We have an always-reply policy, so even if you send tracks through that we don't end up deciding are a good fit for the label, we'll let you know - and give feedback if you're interested.
